Incoming Freshmen

Texas State offers a variety of academically competitive scholarships for incoming freshmen. Completed freshmen scholarship application packets for the 2005-2006 academic year are due in the Scholarship Office no later than December 1, 2004. One must be admitted by the scholarship deadline in order to be considered for scholarships. Applications will be reviewed and rated on the basis of high school rank, SAT/ACT scores, transcript, interview performance, community involvement, essay, resume, and other criteria.

The Terry Foundation awards full scholarships that pay for tuition, fees, room, board, and miscellaneous expenses. The average award is approximately $10,000 per year and is potentially renewable for an additional 3 years. The intent of the award is to allow recipients the opportunity to have a complete college experience (i.e., not work while taking classes and become engaged in campus co-curricular activities as a leader) and to concentrate on their academic pursuits. Interviews for this Terry Foundation Scholarship will be conducted in April of each year.

In addition to this interview process, approximately 150 freshmen scholarship applicants are invited to campus to participate in the Scholars Weekend program, which is usually held in February. This weekend is set aside to help students and their parents become more familiar with Texas State.

During this program, candidates will interview for such premier awards as the Roy F. & Joann Cole Mitte Foundation Scholarship, participate in a college and University Honors course, tour the campus, attend a scholars dinner, and stay overnight in a residence hall. The weekend is coordinated with the Texas State Bobcat Day program so scholars may also attend presentations from various offices and campus organizations. Students who are invited to the Scholars Weekend and participate in the interview process are guaranteed at least a $500 scholarship to attend Texas State.
