The ELICOS Centre at
Swinburne has been working closely with the Higher Education Divisions
to put in place a recommendation system for students continuing onto
Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses at Swinburne.
Currently, our ELICOS students completing levels
at “English for Academic Purposes 2 (EAP2)” or “Intensive
English (Academic)”, will be able to use their teacher’s
recommendation on completion, to gain entry into our TAFE courses -
without having to sit for an IELTS test.
From 2003 onwards, this system will also be in
place for students going onto Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses.
Due to the nature of the recommendations, it is
vital that students are placed at an appropriate level at the start of
their ELICOS program. This could be done through the Swinburne English
Placement Test or IELTS/TOEFL.
